Italian food news – my favorite Italian food bloggers
From grannies to bloggers
Italian cuisine has a well-deserved global reputation for its exceptional quality. Iconic dishes, mouthwatering flavors, seemingly endless variety — Italy has a rich culinary heritage that continues to captivate food enthusiasts worldwide. In the past, recipes were primarily passed down via cookbooks, magazines, and, most important for some, family traditions.
With the advent of the web, however, a new era of culinary exploration has emerged, and food blogs are revolutionizing the way we discover and learn about Italian cuisine. In this article, we will delve into a few of the many Italian recipes, discuss the impact of food blogs and social media, and explore the most beloved blogs and magazines in the Italian culinary landscape.
Classic, healthy, and dietary alternatives
Italian recipes, like the cuisine itself, have evolved over time. With the rise of food blogs and social media, culinary enthusiasts now have access to a vast array of diverse cooking styles, healthy alternatives, seasonal ingredients, and innovative flavor combinations. Traditional recipes continue to hold their own, but the infusion of modern influences has added a delightful twist to Italian gastronomy. From traditional pasta dishes to contemporary plant-based options, an explosion of creativity has unfolded that seeks to satisfy every taste and dietary preference.
The Rise of Food Blogs in Italy
Two historical blogs, “Cavoletto di Bruxelles” (Brussels Sprout) and “Giallo Zafferano” (Yellow Saffron), have played a pivotal role in the culinary revolution in Italy. These blogs, along with others, have paved the way for a vibrant community of food enthusiasts, who share their passion, expertise, and love for Italian cuisine. As of January 2020, there were 2500 food blogs in Italy, a testament to the growing interest and engagement in this digital sphere
My list: the recipes that never let me down
While numerous articles highlight the most famous Italian food blogs, personal preferences often shape our culinary journeys. Over the years, I have faithfully followed several magazines and authors, who consistently produce and curate delicious and reliable recipes. Among my favorites are both renowned blogs and hidden gems, each offering unique insights and culinary delights.
Although my list does not include all the famous blogs, I remain open to discovering new talents that may emerge on the culinary horizon. Rest assured, I will diligently translate these new recipes, credit the authors, and share my experiences through future updates on my own blog.
Why should you follow me?
I have two diplomas from two prestigious Italian cooking programs (Pastry and Baking, and Hotel Catering School); my mother was a chef from Naples and has been teaching me ever since I could hold a spoon; my parents and maternal grandparents were restaurant owners for more than 30 years in Italy and I worked for them starting at age 14; and I worked for years as a pastry chef at “Al Duomo,” the best pastry shop in Ravenna, and as a chef/manager/food-buyer/newsletter-writer for Italian food specialty stores and food importers. And, perhaps most of all, I am one of the gazillion food lovers on the planet.
I regularly follow about 30 Italian food blogs. Here are my 10 favorites (more to follow):
- Giallo Zafferano
- Tavolartegusto
- Il Cucchiaio D’Argento
- La Cucina Italiana
- Chiarapassion
- Dissapore
- Contemporaneofood.com
- Sale & Pepe
- Agrodolce
- Gustissimo
